Lying to the west of Wrexham and north of Llangollen is a wild open historic upland landscape, with heather covered Ruabon Mountain at its centre. On its western edge extending south from World's End is one of the most spectacular limestone escarpments in Britain. Further north is Cyrn-y-Brain whose telecommunication masts are a prominent landmark feature. Its northern side includes Llandegla Forest and the moorland of Esclusham and Minera Mountains, bordered by the Clywedog valley and the industrial communities of Minera, Gwynfryn, Bwlchgwyn and Coedpoeth. To the east the moorland extends towards Rhos and Penycae, becoming undulating farmland. The rugged moorland of Ruabon Mountain, is complemented by undulating pastureland, wooded valleys, forest, reservoirs and estate land at Erddig. This diverse area of upland and valleys is explored on these walks.
