About us

Having trained as a graphic designer, David Perrott worked on the renowned Nicholson London Guides and gradually found himself to be contributing to editorial sections of these books as well. When he started as a freelance he eventually took over the research and writing of the Nicholson/Ordnance Survey Waterways Guides series of seven books. Along with this work he c0-authored the Shell Book of the Islands of Britain, along with a guide to Edinburgh and various walking guides for Bartholomews, Waterways Walks Around Birmingham for Sigma and Best Pubs for Families for CAMRA. Map production skills developed as he worked for the Consumers’ Association magazine ‘Holiday Which’.

It soon became apparent that with such a varied publishing background he could embark on a few projects of his own, along with producing the National Trail Guide to Glyndwr’s Way.

His wife Morag, an illustrator, was working for various publishers and it seemed sensible for husband and wife to embark together on a new ‘family’ business – Kittiwake Books.

Staring with their walks guide to Machynlleth, a guide to Dolgellau soon followed, then the Clwydian Range and Porthmadog began what is now an extensive range of over 90 books covering virtually the whole of Wales and the Borders, including several long-distance trail guides. These now occupy most of their time, although they still manage to contribute maps to the CAMRA Real Ale Guide, The Good Hotels Guide and the Good Pub Guide.
